My opinion

Today, the Legislative Branch tried to pass another "recall" against President Chen Shui Bian. They also promise to do it again next month. This is getting ridiculous. As an American, I value the right to protest and the right to recall. However, there has to be point to where the protest or recall actually hurts Taiwan. The protest has shifted. At first, the protest was well defined. The purpose was clear. As the protest has grown longer, the focus seems to be on the protest itself. When that happens, the protest loses not only its purpose, but also, its power. The recall is a waste of time, money, and resources. They know that the "pan-green" camp will not participate in the debate or vote. There is one other alternative: a referendum. The problem with this is that when the "pan-blue" pass the referendum law, they set it too high. 75% of REGISTERED voters must pass. That means if the "pan-greens" boycott the vote, it will not even be close to passing. Last year, the Legislature only passed 11 bills. 11 bills the whole year! This year, it may be worse. If they would turn their attention to the social and economic problems of Taiwan, maybe they can win the trust of the ordinary Taiwanese. Until they do, there will always be tension and conflict. It is also time that the Taiwanese to realize that they are Taiwanese; not Chinese. But, that is another post. Please feel free to comment.

Welcome To This World

Caitlin Elizabeth Wright was born on September 6, 2006 at 1:28 pm. She was born in Pingtung, Taiwan. She weighs 2.9 kg and is 47 cm long. She has long legs, though. Becky is doing better now. Thank you for all your prayers and support. BTW, she has a temper. She can just begin to use the bathroom and start screaming to be changed. As you can tell, she is so pretty.

Remembering

A year ago today, I lost my dad. The pain and grief are still with me. Words cannot adequately describe my feeling today. All I know is that I am flooded with memories of him in everything I see. It doesn't seem as if it has been a year. Pray for mom today.

Remember to always tell those you love that you do love them.....everyday!

Miracle

Today at church, we received some great news from my good friend Cyril and his wife Lydia. Lydia's aunt was in the terminal stage of cancer. We all began praying for her. She was approved to take a new test for free. The hospital needed to calibrate the machine. It is something like a CT Scan, only better. When they scanned her, they could not find a trace of the cancer. It is totally gone.

This shows the power of prayer. Please remember to pray for one another and have the faith of the centurion in Matthew 8.

Baby Update

Just a little note to tell everyone that the baby is doing great. We finally decided on a name. Thanks Robbie for all your suggestions. We have decided on Caitlin Elizabeth. We know she will be pretty because she will look like her mom, we pray. The due date is around September 24. Daniel is still trying to get into the basenet. He said he had to make sure it was safe for "mei mei", which means little sister. He sleeps with his 2 baby quilts that were made for him. He said that mei mei can sleep with them if she wants.

Happy Birthday, Daniel

Time seems to go by so fast. It seems like only yesterday that I saw him being born. I still remember his 2 teeth that shocked even the doctor. We knew then that this kid was going to be special. And, he is!

Around here, I am not known as Chris. I am known as "Daniel's Daddy!"

Happy Birthday, my son! I love you very much!

Taiwan Political Situation

I usually only speak my mind about politics when I am asked. However, I believe that I need to speak out about what is happening here. Today, the president of Taiwan, Chen Shui Bian, survived a recall vote by the legislature. I am happy that he won. Let me give you some background information so that you might understand the situation a little better.

About a month ago, his son in law was charged with insider trading and scamming. Immediately, the opposition parties, the KMT and PFP, called for the president to resign. The president has not be linked to anything concerning the crime. Please keep in mind that there has been no trial, no conviction, no confession of the president doing anything wrong, and no evidence of wrongdoing by the president. The oppostion parties stated that he was responsible for his family and their members has taken this deception wholeheartedly. When you press them to see if it would be fair for them to go to jail because of their brother, they hesitate and say "it is different." Of course, i ask how. They can never reply. Making someone lose their job because of what someone else did is inconcieveable. I keep telling them that there has been no trial.

This is a serious situation. The KMT and PFP lecturing the people about corruption is like the US government lecturing us on how to save money. The KMT conquered Taiwan in 1949 and stole many assets for its political gain. It is estimated that they stole approximately $US 80 Billion from the people of Taiwan. The PFP leader has 5 houses in the US along with about $US15 million in the bank. The KMT leader has property as well as $US 7 Million in the bank, while only being the mayor of Taipei, which pays $US 9,000/ month. The legislature killed a bill to examine the corruption of the KMT, but, now, they want to condemn an innocent man because of a family member's corruption.

I am glad the people of Taiwan were smart enough to see through this facade. Please pray for political stability and that healing can come.

Congradulations

Just wanted to say Congradulations to my good friend Rei Ting on his graduation from High School tomorrow. The baby pic was when he was 7 months old and the top one was taken a few months ago [17 years old]. How time flies. May God bless you on your journey. Always remember to look to him for guidance. And, as always, you have a dear friend in me. Love you, man!

Was looking at some pics I had in my computer and I came across this banner. It was a great season for the Chicks this year.

AAAA East Conference Champs

AAAA State Champs

#1 in AAAA; #2 Overall in State

Just want to give them some props. Our 1st state title since my junior year in 1989.

Congrats!

Daniel

I can't take credit for this picture. It was taken by my good friend David Shirk.

Daniel is the sunshine on a cloudy day. I find myself staring at him, wondering what I did to deserve a wonderful son like him. He is so tenderhearted. He was listening to the story of Joseph, in Chinese of course, and began to cry. He looked at Becky and said, "Mommy, why did his brothers be mean to him?" Becky told him to listen to the rest of the story. At the end, we began to talk to him about forgiveness. He understood the meaning of forgiveness and even stated that he, too, would have forgiven his "sister."

It seems he always have the right words or actions to make me happy when I feel sad. In many ways, Daniel is my source of strength.

Welcome to Pingtung, Taiwan. Pingtung is a small city in southern Taiwan. There are approximately 300,000 people here. The scenery is great and the people are friendly.

This blog is an easy way for me to keep you informed on the happenings surrounding my life. Trust me, there is never a dull moment. Never is when you have a 4 year old son that is just like his Uncle Robbie. I will be making changes, adding stuff as time permits.
